Come and work as a vital member of our Works team here at Mareeba Shire Council, located within an easy one-hour drive from Cairns offering a regional lifestyle with all its benefits in relatively close proximity to Cairns.
The Role:
Our Foreperson Construction & Maintenance – Bridge & Concrete Crew works independently under limited direction from the Coordinator Transport Infrastructure and is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of minor, major and contract projects within the works program. This position may be required to work in a variety of locations across the Shire including supervising works programs that involve working and camping in remote locations.
The position requires physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis. As such, it is the responsibility of the Foreperson Construction & Maintenance to ensure they are physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. This includes maintaining their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) for the seat of the machinery and equipment the position is required to operate. This role will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
What we are looking for:
You will have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
You will be able to demonstrate your ability to organise and prioritise your work to meet deadlines and budget constraints
You will have a sound understanding of job costing, quality control and basic contract management
You will have demonstrated experience in timber and concrete bridge maintenance and construction
You will have demonstrated experience in concrete form setting, steel fixing and finishing
You will be able to work well on your own with limited supervision
You will have detailed knowledge of operational methodology, Workplace Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and Local Authority practices and procedures
You will have sound computer skills using Microsoft applications

LGOA Level 2 – $66,+46 per annum
Mareeba Allowance of $2,080 per annum and other Award allowances as applicable
Up to 12% employer superannuation contributions
