With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2026 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.
This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 240 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About the role
The role will be part of the DroneShield Customer Portal development team, but it will be easily extended and linked to other products, such as DroneSentry-C2 and other DroneShield products. The Customer Portal currently serves as the backbone of customer interactions with their DroneShield devices, and a management system of customers and their owned systems. In this role you will extend this functionality through a greenfield rebuild of the Application’s Frontend, including its Device and Customer Management Systems, and introduce a once-click philosophy to streamline and overhaul the user experience.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
Design and develop the current systems to increase functionality and usability
Build features and improvements from conceptualisation to realisation working closely with the software engineering team
Take operational responsibility for the services and code base that you will develop
Contribute to Cutting Edge Component Libraries
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
Between 3 and 5 years’ experience in software developing
Experience working with at least one modern TypeScript framework, React is ideal
Experience working with two or more from the following: web application development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, developing large software systems, and/or security software development
Experience using REST APIs and websockets
Experience developing microservices infrastructure is ideal
Previous ‘start-up’ or ‘scale-up’ experience is favourable
Familiar with Redux, Tailwind, MUI, ZOD (yup), React Hook Forms, Docker, Postman, GitLab and/or AWS is favourable

You are experienced working with modern infrastructure and tools
You are comfortable running your software in Linux environments
You know and care about sound engineering practices like continuous delivery, defensive programming and automated testing
