Full Stack PHP Developer

Job Description

Full Stack PHP Developer – Launch a new project!

Remote working with travel to Edinburgh

Salary: Circa £60k

Hours: 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

Due to exciting growth we are looking to recruit an experienced PHP developer to join our talented development team. Our team currently consists of a new developer who has recently joined us and two well-established employees who have a tenure of over 16 years combined! This is a fantastic time to join us as you will be working on a new project that is launching in January!

At Protect Line, we are not just a life insurance broker but an industry game-changer. Being independently owned, we have the freedom to blaze our own trail and innovate on our terms. We’re looking for a dynamic and passionate developer who will not just follow our path, but help create it. We're transforming the life insurance space one line of code at a time, and we want you on board.

With passion, resilience, and a customer-centric approach, we offer personalised protection policies and create incredible digital experiences. But don't just take our word for it, check out our rave reviews on Trustpilot, or join our community on Instagram and Facebook at Protect Line Careers.

This role is predominantly remote, but with our other three Software Developers living in Edinburgh, you have opportunity to meet and collaborate on occasion. There will also be the occasional requirement to travel to our head office in Bournemouth on the South Coast.

As a Full Stack Developer, you will be:
• Enhancing and developing our bespoke CRM, Office Line with exciting new features
• Utilising your PHP experience to ensure strong back end functionality
• Take on the task of server side development
• Collaborating closely with the rest of the team as well as business stakeholders
• Ensuring seamless integration of our front end and back end systems.
• Managing dependencies and ensuring our systems are up to date

What we’re looking for:
• Demonstrable experience in software development.
• Solid experience with object-oriented PHP
• Experience with large and complex applications.
• An adherence to best practices for security, design and maintenance.
• An ability to work independently whilst communicating well with other team members.
• Experience with Doctrine ORM, Behaviour Driven Development, Domain Driven Design, MySQL, RabbitMQ, Docker, Symfony and Linux are all advantageous but not essential.

Our current tech stack:

PHP 8, Symfony, Angular 18 / AngularJS, Bootstrap, Docker, MariaDB, RabbitMQ, Memcached

Don’t have experience with all the technologies mentioned? No problem… as long as you have a strong desire to learn! As we are a relatively small IT and software development team, each member makes a real difference. There may be chances for you to put any experience with other programming languages, technologies or tools to good use alongside PHP development.

What will you get in return?
• No weekend working and enjoy time off during Christmas and Bank Holidays. Work-life balance, yes please!
• Celebrate loyalty with us - enjoy birthday leave, extra holiday days, and paid days off for important life moments like getting married or buying a house
• Life is unpredictable, and we've got your back. Take paid time off for appointments, car trouble, family emergencies, or whatever life throws at you
• Join us for some epic company events! Our annual Summer and Christmas parties are legendary
• We've got your future covered with a pension, discounted life insurance and death in service benefit
• It really does pay to have friends with our £1500 recommend a friend scheme
• We love a discount and we have many on offer through our rewards scheme, including eye care and local retailers

So come and join our extraordinary team of customer champions who are all about doing the right thing in every way imaginable. We don't settle for ordinary, we strive for extraordinary! So, if you're someone who loves turning good outcomes into incredible ones, then get ready for an exhilarating adventure with us!

At Protect Line, we believe in equality, diversity, and inclusion. We're proud to be a place where anyone with any background or experience can flourish. Come, see for yourself, and be part of something amazing!

Whilst we would love to be able to respond to every application we receive, it isn’t always possible due to the high volume we receive each day. If you have not heard from us within 7 working days, please assume that your application has not been successful.
