POSITION SUMMARY
The Full-Time Medical Assistant - Float plays a crucial role in supporting physicians with patient procedures, gathering patient histories, and ensuring a seamless patient flow, while acting as a liaison between physicians, patients, and medical office staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adaptable and ready to assist various clinics by floating to designated sites based on current staffing needs, showing flexibility with schedule changes.
• Support healthcare providers in executing office procedures and patient care tasks while maintaining documentation standards in line with Office Protocols.
• Proactively assess patient flow, pinpointing issues that cause delays and addressing them or reporting to the Practice Manager.
• Perform essential Medical Assistant functions including Injections, Immunizations, Pulmonary function testing, Snellen tests, Hearing exams, and Electrocardiograms.
• Gather detailed patient histories, document preventive care, support medication reconciliation, and transcribe family histories following office protocols.
• Review patient orders for completeness and address any discrepancies before patient checkout, ensuring accuracy is communicated to the Practice Manager.
• Verify each referral and laboratory requisition for correct patient information, appropriate tests, and accurate diagnoses.
• Obtain necessary waivers and consents, meticulously documenting procedures performed and instructions provided to patients, in compliance with electronic medical records and office guidelines.
• Prepare examination rooms immediately after patient visits and ensure they are well-stocked and disinfected daily according to Office Protocol.
• Facilitate patient check-outs and provide Patient Summary Plans, confirming that patients fully understand their instructions as directed by their providers.
• Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and cooperation with patients, staff, and providers at all times.
• Carry out responsibilities efficiently while adhering to guidelines set by OSHA, HIPAA, DHS, CLIA, EPA, and specific contractual agreements.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Practice Manager that are in line with job functions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Education: Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate from an accredited institution, with BLS certification and knowledge of emergency procedures, plus a High School diploma or GED. Ongoing certification maintenance through CME's is required.
• Qualifications/Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical practice environment.
• Special Skills/Knowledge: Familiarity with medical technology, procedural terminology, and diagnostic codes, paired with a professional and patient-centered attitude. Flexibility for last-minute schedule changes and reliable transportation are essential.
