The Team:

The Marketplace mission is to truly understand traveler needs and behaviour across multiple verticals, design and implement common traveler-facing product experiences, steward travellers to the right vertical offering, and grow Connected Trips, where travellers not only book hotels or homes, but also flights, car rentals, rides, and local attractions with us.

About Role:

We are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join our team and help us to improve the platform that supports one of the best experimentation tools in the world. You will work side by side with other software engineers to improve the reliability, scalability, maintenance and operations of all the web services that are part of the experimentation tool at Booking.com. Your day to day work includes but is not limited to the development of capabilities for monitoring, alerting, testing and troubleshooting of the web service ecosystem of the experiment platform. You will collaborate with colleagues in Amsterdam to achieve results the right way. This will include engineering managers, product managers, engineers and data scientists.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
• Develop platform capabilities such as testing, monitoring, debugging and alerting to improve the development environment of current and new software products.
• Solve technical problems to improve our development process, increase our efficiency and unlock new business opportunities
• Take initiative to improve existing solutions, challenge decisions, propose augmented alternatives and address technical debt
• Keep operational all the web services related to experimentation and apply different techniques to reduce the operational load.
• Contribute to technical discussion around software architecture and help the team to make decisions that are agile, incremental and beneficial for the long term
• Refactor and simplify code by introducing design patterns when necessary and guide more junior members of the team in this topic
• Systematically identify patterns and underlying issues in complex situations, and to find solutions by applying logical and analytical thinking

The job requirements
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering development with frontend and backend technologies
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalent
• Strong experience with at least one of the languages like Perl, Java, NodeJS (JavaScript) or Python
• Knowledge of frontend development concepts
• Knowledge of platform capabilities like testing, alerting, monitoring, debugging, security
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills
• Experience working with web development and applications. Ideally applications with VueJS, GraphQL and diverse backend technologies
• Experience maintaining and enhancing complex scalable systems with capabilities such as testing and observability is a plus
• Experience working with teams located in different timezones is a plus
• Experience with experimentation, statistics and A/B testing is a plus
