The Role - What You’ll Do
As a Gameplay Animator, you will be responsible for the movement and personality of our client’s characters, animals, and objects. You’ll work closely with the Art Director to realize the project's vision while collaborating with tech and design teams to ensure animations align with technical constraints. From creating additive procedural animations to retargeting rigs in Unity, you will play a vital role in ensuring the "game feel" is polished, responsive, and full of character. This role requires someone who is self-sufficient and comfortable giving and receiving the critique necessary to elevate the studio's output.
What You Bring - Key Skills & Traits Essential
Proven experience with at least one commercially shipped title as a 3D Character Animator.
Expertise in Autodesk Maya and a deep understanding of core animation principles.
Unity Proficiency, including experience with animation blending, layering, and implementation.
Technical Versatility, with the ability to handle retargeting across multiple rigs and facial animation (rigs/sprite swapping).
Strong Communication, able to articulate animation choices and collaborate across disciplines.
Based in Ontario (or willing to relocate) with the ability to work from the downtown studio 3 days per week.
Desirable
Knowledge of 3D character rigging and skinning pipelines.
Experience with traditional 2D animation skills.
A personal connection to or interest in action/board sports.
Ability to handle technical animation tasks, such as building rigs or managing complex systems.
