General Laborer/ Occasional Driver Job Description
The General Laborer is responsible for taking up a variety of supporting tasks in Muia Steel Ltd.’s Steel fabrication shop. The general laborer is responsible for picking up debris from working areas and sweeping shop floor, he is expected to help in the painting department, and transporting materials and supplies to and from various locations on a 24' flat bed truck or a 24' truck with a boom. He will be required to drive a forklift and operate overhead cranes with ease. He must keep an accurate record of the number of materials that are received and shipped and communicate this information with Project Managers and administrative staff.
Some of the required skills include physical strength and stamina, the ability to concentrate on carrying out tasks, and strictly abiding by safety rules and regulations, good time management skills, teamwork, strong communication skills, endurance skills, and the ability to work in highly stressful environments with extreme weather fluctuations.
Responsibilities:
· Transporting materials and supplies to and from various locations on a 24’ flat bed truck or 24' truck with boom
· Loading and offloading merchandise to and from trailers using a forklift or overhead cranes a required
· Ensuring that merchandise is properly inspected upon delivery and reporting any damages or inaccurate totals identified on packing slips for supervisor
· Assist in the painting shop
· Ensuring that the work area is clean, safe, organized, and well maintained
· Maintaining high-quality standards by working effectively and efficiently to meet productivity goals while following health and safety regulations
· Putting up precaution or warning signs such as signposts and cones for vehicles and passersby
· Collecting and disposing garbage inside and outside the shop
· Overseeing and managing housekeeping activities when they are required
Requirements:
· Physical strength and stamina, which enables the general laborer to move swiftly, lift and move objects, efficiently handle equipment, and perform efficiently, since the job role is a strenuous one
· Good communication and teamwork skills
· The ability to endure harsh working conditions, since work will be conducted both inside and outside with varying weather conditions
· Excellent time management skills that enable a general laborer to complete daily tasks on time
· Several years of industry-related experience
· At least a High School diploma or GED preferred.
· Must have a class G and DZ Driver’s license and a clean record with the ability to effectively drive a 24’ trucks
Pay will be based on experience and is negotiable (average of $22 to $23/hr)
Benefits: after 3 months’ probation
Hours: Monday to Thursday 7:00am to 4:30pm
Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm (44hrs/wk.)
