The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. As an area within the department, Youth Justice is always committed to the demonstration of the departmental values; serve the community, work together, act with integrity, respect other people and make it happen.

Youth justice custodial centres accommodate young people aged 12-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18-21 year olds sentenced by Adult Courts to a youth justice custodial centre.

Infrastructure Projects &Security Unit (IPSU) is responsible for facility maintenance and upkeep of the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct (PYJP), and Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct (CCYJP) which includes Essential Services and Regulatory Compliance, general maintenance repairs, ground maintenance & grasslands and environment, assets & equipment, Security Systems, Fire Systems, BMS and building systems and delivering minor project works etc.

The opportunity

Ongoing full-time position based at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, in Melbourne.
VPS grade 3 role: $79,122 - $96,073 per year plus superannuation.
Operate as a part of a team to provide high level services such as carpentry, welding, and the installation and general maintenance of fittings, glazing, locks, etc. and amenities within the Youth Justice Custodial Services' infrastructure.
Ensure that all works comply with the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and other Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and building regulations and standards as required.
Under direction, liaise with internal and external stakeholders including tradespeople and suppliers and accurately process the receipt of goods deliveries.
Take initiative to recommend process and system improvements to be applied for the local work area.
To be successful in this role you will have:

Experience in building inspecting, problem resolution and cost estimation for general building and construction works within commercial parameters.
Experience in building or maintenance repairs for general building and construction within a commercial or custodial environment.
A current driver's license
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
