General Tradesperson 1 - Carpenter - Surrey - Temporary

Hourly Rate: $ 42.35

What you'll do

The duties of the role per the IBEW Collective Agreement are as follows:

An employee qualified to perform the duties of a Journeyperson in trades other than the electrical trades defined herein.

General Tradespersons shall perform work such as carpentry, painting, brickwork, track bonding, rigging, automotive,

lagging, exploratory diamond drilling, etc. and all types of work where skilled Tradespersons are required other than those

types of work which are normally performed by Journeyperson electrical workers, but may include special welding to

electrical equipment in energized stations provided such work is supervised by a qualified electrical Journeyperson.

A General Tradesperson may be assisted by a Driver/Helper.

Employees in these categories will be required to perform work of many kinds but the amount of work of any kind available

is so limited that it would be impracticable to limit one employee to any one class of work.

The definitions of the classifications are accordingly indicative only of the qualifications and duties of the employees

concerned.

In addition to the above, General Tradesperson may be required to install duct. Where this work is performed in stations

an electrical Journeyperson shall be present during installation and they may be called on to take charge of the crew.

What you bring

As per IBEW Collective Agreement.

BC Trade qualification or Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement

Basic computer skills and use with Microsoft programs and applications

Valid B.C. Class 5 driver's licence

It would be preferred that the successful candidates have a high level of proficiency in at least two building trades and a

basic understanding of other trades associated with building maintenance

Strong commitment to safety, WorkSafeBC requirements and safe working practices

Familiarity with Provincial building code, WorkSafeBC and other applicable codes related to building operation and

maintenance

Note this position is a full time temporary opportunity for approximately 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicants with a Journeyperson Carpenter with recognized Red Seal

Certification will be given preference.

BC Hydro Construction Services is a group of unionized tradespersons in line, electrical, civil, mechanical, and specialty

trades that build and maintain BC Hydro assets through our project work around BC.

Candidates will be performing formwork, layout, cabinetry, duct bank work, green field & brown field construction.

Candidates must be physically fit and able to lift continuously.

Working environments are based outside in all weather conditions.

Candidates will be working with construction projects in BC Hydro Generation, Transmission & Distribution assets.

Candidate must hold valid First Aid Level or willing to attain Level 1or 3.

Candidate is willing to work outside of the Lower Mainland.

Candidate should have forklift certification or willing to get certificate.

Candidate should be ticketed/certified in carpentry/CCW trade.

Candidate should have minimum 5 years of experience.

A condition of this role is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 - In Good Standing.

Position involves shift work and work at remote sites

Travel will be required.
