The Opportunity
As part of the GIS team at Vocus, GIS Fibre designer is responsible for the fibre design and recording of the fibre network. Updating the GIS systems with any changes to the fibre network. This also requires data validation and analysis, end user support queries, reports and application development and maintenance. GIS Fibre designer is mentored by senior team members with objective to advance development skills and learn technologies and escalates to senior team members when assistance is required.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
Evaluating and integrating geospatial data, primarily telecommunication network infrastructure with ancillary data such as satellite imagery and cadastral data to produce maps and reports, and charts using GIS software, spatial analysis methods, models, and Python scripts.
Create SOW (Sope of Works) documentation to be use by others to deliver the fibre network. (Route plan, line diagrams, word documents and kml files.)
Digitizing optical fibre routes for circuits in GIS representing their actual physical path in the real world and validating their geolocations based on the spatial information maintained within legacy data repositories. (As built data)
Supervising the collection of geospatial data such as optical fibre networks infrastructure, on-net buildings, and cadastral boundaries and integrate received data into the GIS system.
Working closely with engineers and project managers to design and develop advanced fibre designs.
Providing user support in the manipulation of GIS layers and remotely sensed datasets such as Google Earth.
Generating custom reports from GIS datasets
Communicate effectively to stakeholders and internal customers
Troubleshoot issues and to provide support and training to end users
What you’ll bring to this role
Knowledge and previous experience with geospatial system such as QGIS, ArcGIS , Mapinfo, Google Earth (kml-kmz), FME or similar.
Knowledge and previous experience with Python scripting in geospatial context
Proficient MS Office skills, in particular MS Excel
Analytical skills and great attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
High level knowledge of fibre design, fibre optical cables and FTTx design.
Strong problem analysis and resolution skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal and documentation skills
Excellent time management and ability to prioritize
