Golf Course Mechanic

Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining, repairing and keeping in good working order all golf course equipment. Establish and implement preventive maintenance programs for all equipment on inventory in the golf maintenance operation. Be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all golf maintenance equipment. Maintain the mechanics work area and company tools in a clean, well organized, safe and secure manner.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Three (3) years experience as a journeyman skill level mechanic working with power equipment, gasoline, diesel, and electric engines.

• Two (2) years of experience working on golf course equipment or equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Possession of a valid Class D driver's license.

• Ability to obtain three (3) equipment maintenance certifications within two (2) years of employment.

• Must supply own tools as required for this position.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose, and repair various types of engines including two and four cycle, air cooled, and liquid cooled.

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose, and repair equipment involving hydrostatic drive systems, transmissions, electrical, exhaust, hydraulics and brakes, reel technology, drive trains, steering, suspension, and cooling systems for optimum operating efficiency and compliance with safety requirements and regulations.

• Grind and lap reel blades for optimum cut quality.

• Oversee repairs on golf carts.

• Perform welding tasks for frame repair and fabricate parts as needed.

• Train operators to use equipment properly and safely.

• Assist other mechanics with maintenance and repairs on larger Fleet vehicles and equipment.

• Utilize sophisticated electronic test equipment to diagnose and repair equipment.

• Operationally test vehicles and equipment.

• Make service calls for vehicles and equipment that break down.

• Refurbish and conduct complete overhauls on equipment.

• Repair or replace worn parts and re-weld major parts to restore to like-new condition.

• Work on gasoline, diesel, electric equipment.

• May work on alternative fuels/technology and hybrid powered equipment.

• Design, modify, build, and install or remove special equipment.

• Record equipment work orders and inspections in fleet information management system software.

• Clean and maintain the shop, shop tools, and equipment.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
