The Role

Reporting to the Coordinator Risk, Governance and Compliance, this position partners with business units within the City of Ballarat as well as members of the community to identify and implement business improvement projects to ensure efficient and effective governance and statutory compliance functions and processes. A key focus of the role is a review and governance improvement project in relation to Council’s committees and boards, to ensure they are functioning efficiently and effectively. Working in a dynamic and varied environment with a collaborative and fun team as well as directly with the community, as we support the delivery of good governance to the City of Ballarat.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and collaborative individual with well-developed expertise in governance, compliance, and/or board management. You are well-known for your ability to communicate and partner with stakeholders to gain cooperation and achieve outcomes. You have a well-developed ability to analyse and critically consider information to problem solve, identify and implement process improvements, and provide guidance and advice. You are comfortable managing competing priorities with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

Degree or diploma course in governance/statutory compliance/law or related field with relevant experience, preferably in the local government sector.

Key selection criteria

Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote the corporate values.
Well-developed expertise and proficiency in governance and/or statutory compliance, including the application of theories and principles in practical circumstances preferably within the areas of Local Government or private enterprise (governance or statutory compliance).
Highly developed ability to work as part of a collaborative team and contribute to the team environment.
Well-developed ability to conduct investigative research, legislative and policy interpretation, and business improvement, including the ability to analyse and critically consider findings to provide advice, recommendations, and options to relevant stakeholders.
High level customer service skills and excellent communication skills including the capacity to deal with people face-to-face, over the phone and via other mechanisms of communication as required.
