ABOUT THE ROLE
As Government Affairs Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and influencing law, regulation and public policy on issues that matter to Chartered Accountants and the communities they serve. Reporting to the Advocacy Campaign and Government Affairs Leader, you’ll lead state and territory government engagement, working closely with members, advocacy colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes in the public interest.
This role offers the opportunity to operate at the intersection of policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement — turning insight into impact.
Key responsibilities:
Leading state and territory government engagement and advocacy activities aligned to CA ANZ policy positions
Building and managing relationships with government departments, regulators, Ministers’ offices, Opposition and cross bench representatives
Identifying emerging policy issues relevant to members and developing well researched policy positions
Undertaking policy research and preparing submissions, briefing notes, letters, talking points and speeches
Partnering with External Affairs to support media and advocacy campaigns
Engaging members through consultations, events, roundtables and digital channels
Coordinating advocacy activity with internal teams, Regional Managers and Technical Advisory Committees
Analysing state and territory budgets and supporting related communications and reporting
Using digital platforms and data to track engagement, inform strategy and improve outcomes
ABOUT YOU
You’re a confident policy and government relations professional who enjoys working in complex environments and influencing outcomes through collaboration and insight.
Extensive experience in a legal, policy, government or related environment
Strong understanding of public policy development and the legislative process
Proven ability to analyse complex policy or regulatory issues and communicate them clearly
The ability to identify strategic opportunities and translate them into clear, focused advocacy activity
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience with submissions and stakeholder briefings
Strong relationship building skills with the ability to engage credibly across diverse audiences
A proactive, solutions focused mindset with high attention to detail
The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently while contributing to team outcomes
Desirable:
Knowledge of business and professional issues impacting Chartered Accountants in Australia
Experience interpreting legislation and working with regulatory frameworks
Background in policy research, project delivery and evaluation
Tertiary qualification in law, public policy, government, or a related discipline
