This is a permanent full-time position commencing March 2026

The Industrial and Employee Relations Directorate comprises the Industrial Relations and Employee Relations branches and is responsible for ensuring compliance with industrial instruments and associated legislative frameworks. The Directorate provides strategic and operational advice and support on a wide range of industrial and employee relations matters, supports effective performance management, and assists school leaders and line managers with discrete human resource issues, including conduct and discipline, while advising the Minister, Director General and senior leaders on complex workforce matters.

The Role

This role provides operational and strategic support to the Director and managers across a broad range of industrial and employee relations matters. The position involves interpreting and applying industrial instruments and legislation, developing clear recommendations, and preparing high-quality documentation and correspondence to support sound decision-making.

The role undertakes research, policy and project activities both independently and collaboratively, and contributes to the strategic direction of employee relations through input into the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures. In consultation with senior staff, the role prepares briefing notes, Ministerial correspondence, responses to parliamentary questions and other formal communications on complex industrial and employee relations issues.

The role also provides accurate and timely advice to principals and managers, supporting effective people management and compliance with industrial frameworks. It builds and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate information sharing, collaboration and effective issue resolution.
