Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated Handwork teacher to work with students from Classes 1–8.
The successful candidate will have an interest and/or experience in Steiner / Waldorf education, and a passion for nurturing the artistic and practical capacities of tamariki and rangatahi through Waldorf-inspired meaningful handwork.
Our ideal candidate will bring artistic skill, care, and an understanding of how handwork supports the will, concentration, and creative expression of tamariki and rangatahi.
The Handwork teacher will lead artistic, age-appropriate lessons in knitting, crochet, sewing, cross stitch, and other fibre arts. Lessons aim to strengthen fine motor coordination, perseverance, aesthetic sense, and joy in process and form.
The teacher must have, or be able to obtain, a current practising certificate or Limited Authority to Teach issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Infuses lessons with rhythm, beauty, and purpose

Communicates with clarity, warmth, and collaboration
Finds joy in guiding students through long-term, hands-on creative processes
Core responsibilities of this role include:
Designing and leading Handwork lessons grounded in Steiner / Waldorf pedagogy for Classes 1–8; with potential for some Upper School Handwork (spinning, weaving, machine-sewing)
Creating a safe, beautiful, and nurturing classroom environment
Fostering creativity, perseverance, and artistic appreciation through developmentally appropriate projects
Participating actively in school festivals, celebrations, and community events
Observing, documenting, and assessing both individual and group learning journeys
Engaging fully in faculty meetings and professional development
There is potential to expand this role to include support for festivals, costume and drama work within the school.
We are seeking candidates who are interested in a range of hours per week, from part-time to full-time, as it could be a job-shared role.

Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School is located in Auckland’s Waitākere ranges on 29 hectares of native bush bordering the Manukau Harbour. It is a safe, peaceful and natural learning haven only minutes from vibrant Titirangi village and 30 minutes from downtown Auckland. It is the only independent Steiner School in New Zealand that offers education from playgroup to high school.
The school has a roll of around 280 students from Nursery through to Class 12 (Year 13).
