As we continue to welcome visitors to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and share our conversation story - we have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Casual Handyman to support our Grounds & Maintenance team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Leading Hand Carpenter, you will assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the Sanctuary’s buildings, facilities, and grounds.
This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on basic carpentry and general maintenance, including repairs, painting, fencing, and site upkeep. You’ll ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
The role requires good physical fitness, as you’ll be working outdoors in all weather conditions and performing tasks involving lifting, walking, bending, and working in occasionally noisy or dusty environments.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have at least 2 years’ experience in a similar position You will be a safe, tidy, friendly, and courteous worker as this is a work environment where visibility and interactions with guests is an important factor.
Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:
Proven hands-on experience in carpentry, building maintenance or similar (no formal trade qualification required)
Ability to carry out basic carpentry tasks such as decking, repairs, fencing, and general building works
Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively
Good understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) practices
Physically fit and capable of manual labour in outdoor environments
Reliable, proactive and able to work independently or within a team
Comfortable in a work environment which includes, mammal, birds, reptiles and snakes
