An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate Head Chef to lead the culinary team at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, overseeing all kitchen operations at the busy Cafe, as well as the many great events for the corporate as well as social markets. The Venue cuisine is eclectic, producing a wide range of international dishes while keeping up with current food trends, giving our customers a memorable dining experience.

The Role
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Head Chef works independently with the support of the Fresh Collective management team
The role will oversee and ensure the smooth running of all kitchen operations, including
Kitchen Administration
Food and Labour costs and controls
Budgeting and forecasting
Workplace Health and hygiene
Staff management and recruitment
Food production for both the Café and all functions at NPG
Assist in the creation of seasonally changing menus
Producing a range of corporate catering which are picked up from the site and dropped to the client
Maintain and develop a loyal team through effective communication and inspirational leadership
Essentials
Qualifications in Cookery – Diploma level preferred
Minimum of three years in a leadership role, ideally from a hotel back ground
Enjoy working in a hands on, busy environment with a true passion for cooking
A keen eye for detail and a positive and proactive approach
Strong and detailed business acumen for kitchen operations
Proven ability to lead by example and foster a creative and organised environment where team members take pride in their work
Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to plan for the future
Motivated, with a drive to challenge yourself daily and deliver the very best
