Brief about Aseema: Aseema Charitable Trust is a Mumbai based non-governmental organization with a mission to equip children from marginalized communities with high quality, value based education enabling development of their limitless potential. It works in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and is currently running three MCGM schools – The Pali Chimbai Municipal School in Bandra (West) The Santacruz Municipal School in Santacruz West and The Kherwadi Municipal School in Bandra (East).

Reporting to: Chairperson

Key responsibilities:

1. To oversee the Curriculum Development team and ensure that targets for improvement in the Curriculum Area are set and met through positive approaches. To plan and prepare schemes of work, monitor learning and teaching across the schools in the Curriculum area and the support development of team.

2. To ensure a robust curriculum is designed and implemented in schools to achieve Aseema’s vision of providing high quality teaching and expanding our reach to other schools.

3. To guide the team and oversee the process so that it meets the following key criteria:

 Is well-suited to the learning needs of children

 Gives sufficient time and attention to build foundational skills;

 Strikes an appropriate balance between the development of different language skills

 Provides plenty of opportunities for children to develop a love for reading;

 Focusses on building meaningful skills that will be of value once children leave school;

 Can be feasibly implemented given the context in which Aseema works

4. To review the manuals and ensure detailed lesson plans/ assessments/ resources for innovative and child centric methods of teaching are included.

5. To oversee the process of testing the curriculum to check if it works well and outline any additional steps that will need to be taken.

6. To map the learning outcomes that children will achieve at the end of each standard

7. To provide time bound support to implement the curriculum, including training of teachers.

8. To guide the team and oversee the end to end process of training the teachers for the respective classes on implementation of the lesson plans

+. To ensure class observations are done at regular intervals by the Trainers and feedback is shared with the teachers.

10. To undertake outstation travel and help in training external clients on the curriculum implementation

11. To ensure all efforts are made to retain quality staff by providing continuous support, guidance, training, addressing grievances to their satisfaction and internal growth opportunities.

Qualification:

 B. Ed / Masters in English

 Minimum 5 years of experience in curriculum development and training and school teaching (in a progressive school environment)

 Experience of working with children from non-English speaking, multilingual, poor backgrounds would be preferred

 Proficiency in computer skills is a must

Essential:

 Self-driven, outcomes-oriented and ability to work independently

 Excellent speaking, writing skills in English

 Ability to lead a team and experience of managing people

 Excellent interpersonal skills; flexible and positive attitude

 Experience of working on deadlines

 A clear thinker with a deep interest in education
