Percy Jack Motorcycles is an independent motorcycle workshop established in 2016 and based in Sydney’s Inner West. We service a wide range of motorcycles — from high-end performance machines to daily commuters — across road and dirt. Our work includes major services, diagnostics, tyre fitting, registration inspections, performance upgrades and customisations.
We are seeking an experienced Senior / Head Motorcycle Mechanic to lead the workshop floor and set the technical standard for the business.
About the Role
This is a leadership position within the workshop.
The Head Mechanic is responsible for:
Setting and maintaining the technical standard of workmanship.
Overseeing and supporting other mechanics and apprentices.
Ensuring jobs are completed accurately, efficiently and safely.
Working closely with the Operations Manager (Workshop Manager), who coordinates scheduling, parts procurement and customer communication.
While the Operations Manager manages workflow and administration, the Head Mechanic is accountable for technical quality and workshop output.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Perform high-level diagnostics, major services, engine work and complex repairs.
Provide technical guidance to other mechanics and apprentices.
Conduct quality control checks before vehicle handover.
Identify training needs within the workshop.
Workshop Oversight
Ensure all work meets agreed timeframes and quality standards.
Maintain a safe and compliant workshop environment.
Uphold strong documentation standards for job notes and service records.
Assist in refining workshop procedures and improving efficiency.
Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the Operations Manager regarding job allocation and technical considerations.
Support and mentor junior mechanics.
Maintain a professional standard in all internal and external communication.
Customer Interaction (as required)
Provide technical explanations when needed.
Support the Operations Manager with complex customer discussions.
Maintain professional presentation and conduct.
Skills and Experience Required
Trade qualified Motorcycle Mechanic.
Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in Australia.
Prior experience in a Senior or Head Mechanic role highly regarded.
Strong diagnostic capability across multiple makes and models.
Experience overseeing or mentoring other mechanics or apprentices.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical outcomes.
Unrestricted Motorcycle Licence.
Strong understanding of workshop safety and compliance requirements.
