The Role

Scotiabank’s Cards Engineering is a team with a clear and well-supported mandate to evangelise and build a best-in-class end to end Cards solutions for Scotiabank’s financial products & services. The engineering team provides Back end and API solutions and capabilities that enable great customer experiences fulfilling their banking needs.


The Head of Engineering will set the vision, guide architecture, set the proper engineering culture and enable a multi-disciplinary technology team to bring industry-leading digital products and experiences to market through agile practices.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Delivery TSYS Program (Launch of all Visa/Amex Products + Conversion of 8MM Cards and Lines of credits by 2026)

Delivery of ongoing SIP Projects related to Cards (~20MM investment x Year)

Accountable of the Cards Domain including keeping the lights on (Defects, Monitoring, Support), Business Maintenance, Visa/Amex mandates, Regulatory & Compliance projects

Delivery of Mainframe decommission for cards (KS and satellite systems), acceleration to the Cloud and modernization of credit card ecosystem components.

Oversee the design, development, deployment, and operationalization of highly scalable & sustainable enterprise-wide technology internal products, components, and tools to support the overall digital ecosystem.

Single point of contact for RPUL Business Line with direct cooperation/communication at Director/VP/SVP level; included activities such as assisting with Strategic Investment Planning and ongoing business / IT prioritization discussions.

Single point of contact for Cards related activities for other business areas (Risk, Collections, Fraud, Data Analytics, etc) providing guidance and support including delivery of Credit Card data on a timeline fashion.

In close collaboration with Global IT&S Banking Leaders (e.g. Engineering, Design, Product, Analytics, Delivery, Infrastructure, Security ,etc), lead execution against identified systems capabilities roadmaps and vision through agile software delivery and enabling a high velocity engineering environment.

Promote co-creation and reusability in a global scale working with different teams in different countries to accelerate futures software developments.

Build a high-performance environment, engineering culture and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their Community of Practice by fostering an inclusive work environment and communicating vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

5+ years’ experience in a leadership role managing large complex enterprise-level technology projects and programs with significant technology and operational components.
Expert knowledge of software development and design principles for highly scalable, enterprise level technology stacks

Expert knowledge in modern agile principles and in a range of modern technologies and frameworks including working knowledge of the full stack

Flexibility to adapt to new and evolving environments and a demonstrated willingness and aptitude for picking new things up quickly

Strong leadership and relationship building skills

Extensive experience with automation, deployment and testing practices at scale

Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to semi-technical audiences

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
