Object Atelier is hiring a head of design to join its team in London.
Object Atelier and Benchspace communal workshops are looking for a design lead to take control of our design and drafting requirements. Object Atelier is a young but established company making fitted furniture and joinery in the commercial and residential sectors. Benchspace our sister company, it is a communal workshop which helps startups and smaller companies manufacture using our design and manufacturing facilities. The candidate should have extensive knowledge and experience, designing furniture and fitted joinery packages. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our small but ever growing team. What we are looking for in a candidate.
Requirements:
• an exciting opportunity to lead the design department at Object Atelier and Benchspace
• candidate must have extensive knowledge of Solidworks and Swood
• pushing the design department forward and constantly looking for ways to improve systems and standards
• assist in estimating design hours for new work
• scheduling design workload and manage design team
• tracking hours on client and production drawings
• completing in depth site surveys for projects
• leasing with client and directors on details and design decisions for projects
• completing client drawings and drawing register for each project
• keeping finishing schedules and procurement lists up to date
• presenting drawings for internal comments and review
• able to present drawings to client, directors and workshop as necessary
• forward thinking and great at problem solving
• completing full production drawings and sub drawings to send for outsourced work
• confident in CNC files for flat bed and through feed CNC
• assist with procurement where necessary
• design standards for Benchspace communal workshop helping small business get of the ground efficiently
As a small company we would also need the candidate to be happy to adapt to the different roles within the company. Furniture making is the heart of what we do and a tight connection between office and workshop is essential.
