On the back of our Series-A funding, the next stage of our ambitious journey begins. Already used by fast-growing scale-ups and global enterprises, such as Checkout.com, Depop and Investec, we’re pushing the boundaries of how people learn.
As we embark on an exciting new phase of our growth journey, HowNow is looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to manage our motivated team of over 20, and lead them to deliver high-quality outcomes.
You will contribute to process improvement, technology advancement and responsibly growing our engineering team. You will work closely with other heads of departments, solution architects, product managers, and our CTO/founder.
Day-to-day tasks will include
You'll lead the team to successfully solve the top engineering challenges (e.g. transition to a fully horizontally scalable system, modularise system into micro-services for key components).
You'll enable decision-making on enterprise architecture and component-level software design all the way to timely build and delivery of our software platforms.
You'll lead the team to continuously ship product & engineering improvements every sprint in the most productive way possible.
You'll line-manage engineering teams (backend, frontend, QA, DevOps) and their team-leads, consisting of 25+ engineers.
You'll lead talent management including hiring, developing and retaining a world-class team
You'll build, communicate, and execute robust development, documentation, and product engineering processes
You'll eliminate impactful, or widespread production incidents.
The key things that we will be looking for in applicants
You have around 15 years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ of those in similar leadership positions in a software product company
You have 4+ years of recent experience in building high-performance SaaS products
You must have managed designing and implementation of microservices architecture
You have succesful hands-on experience, scaling tech platforms from the ground up to large scale
You have experience in delivering low-low-latency, high-availability, and performant systems in a fast-paced agile environment.
You have 3+ years past experience as a hands-on engineer (developer, QA etc.)
You're a hands-on leader, visionary, and problem solver with a passion for excellence.
You've got excellent oral and written communication, organisational, time management skills.
You've had solid exposure to JavaScript, Ruby, Python, React, Docker, Kubernetes etc.
You have a Bachelor and/or Masters degree in technology,
