Job Description
About us
The Squiz is an independent Australian news company that helps time-poor Australians stay informed without feeling overwhelmed. We deliver agenda-free, fact-based news through daily newsletters and podcasts, and we're ensuring the next generation are critical consumers of news and information though Newshounds – our classroom program for 7-12 year olds. We're a team of 15 people running a sustainable, independent business.
The role
This role reports directly to the Executive Director with a team of two and building. It’s a commercial leadership role with real autonomy. You'll own our entire advertising and partnerships strategy – maintaining the relationships that already work, finding new ones that should, and making sure every campaign actually delivers.
You'll be the bridge between our commercial goals and our editorial integrity. That means understanding what our audience values, what our clients need, and how to make both happen without compromising either.
You
You're someone who:
Care about news and how Australians are consuming it
Values our agenda-free approach and can see the benefit of it for commercial viability
Can spot a good partnership opportunity and move fast to make it happen
Knows how to have honest conversations about revenue without losing sight of what matters
Gets energised by hitting targets and keeping a pipeline
Can present to clients with confidence and create proposals that land
Thinks strategically about market shifts but stays practical in execution
Doesn't need to be micromanaged – you see what needs doing and do it
You might come from media sales, public relations and partnerships, or commercial strategy. Experience level matters less than your ability to build relationships, close deals, and think creatively about revenue.
What you'll be doing
Growing revenue – Hit group and individual sales targets, maintain a healthy pipeline, and identify new opportunities across our audience segments
Managing partnerships – Keep existing clients happy, reconvert advertising revenue, and ensure every campaign performs to a high standard.
Staying ahead – Track market movements, spot emerging opportunities, and think strategically about our commercial positioning.
Collaborating on content – Work with our content team to conceptualise partnerships, coordinate campaigns, and report back to clients on performance.
Running the numbers – Track projections, forecast accurately, manage invoicing, and present regular reports.
The details
