Head of Transaction Banking
Expat position based in Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby
Executive Leadership Role
We are partnering with a leading financial institution seeking an experienced Head of Transaction Banking to lead and grow a critical business unit across payments, cash management, trade finance, and digital transaction services. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving strategy, innovation, and revenue growth, while ensuring strong governance, operational excellence, and an exceptional client experience.
The Opportunity
This role will see you take full ownership of the Transaction Banking function, shaping product strategy, leading digital transformation initiatives, and strengthening the bank's market position across corporate and institutional clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Business Growth:
• Develop and execute the Transaction Banking strategy aligned to broader business objectives
• Drive revenue growth across payments, cash management, and trade finance
• Identify new market opportunities and evolving customer needs
• Lead product positioning, pricing strategies, and competitive differentiation
Product & Client Solutions:
• Oversee the full product lifecycle - design, development, implementation, and optimisation
• Manage product profitability and performance KPIs
• Partner closely with Corporate & Commercial Banking teams to deliver tailored client solutions
Digital Transformation:
• Lead the evolution of digital transaction banking platforms (e-banking, API, host-to-host)
• Drive digital onboarding and automation initiatives
• Enhance customer experience through straight-through processing (STP) and workflow improvements
Risk, Compliance & Governance:
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including AML/KYC standards
• Strengthen operational risk frameworks and controls
• Manage product and transactional risks, including fraud exposure
Financial Performance:
• Own the Transaction Banking P&L, including revenue growth and cost management
• Monitor and report on business performance to senior leadership
• Deliver on budget targets and contribute to overall banking revenue
Leadership:
• Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team
• Foster collaboration across Sales, Operations, IT, and Risk
• Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
About You
• 10+ years experience in Transaction Banking, Corporate Banking, Payments, or Trade Finance
• Proven leadership experience in a senior management role
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to drive growth and profitability
• Deep understanding of transaction banking products and client needs
• Experience with digital banking platforms and payment innovations
• Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (AML/KYC, payments, trade finance)
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
