The Transaction Monitoring Operations lead is responsible for managing the process and teams related to alert management and analysis on cases generated by transaction monitoring systems and/or manual monitoring processes (Classic TM) across all lines of business, servicing 50 locations and managing 1,500 FTE. This excludes cases generated by a newly implemented transaction monitoring system – the Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA) system.
The role holder will have accountability for all TM Operations processing, transformation and production management including control ownership within Classic TM, including meeting Service Levels that have been agreed within the current Operating Plan
The role holder will work in partnership with Investigations and the Intelligence Led Financial Crime Risk Management Programme on markets that are transitioning to the DRA, ensuring an effective and efficient transition of TM Operations resources to Investigations as well as timely completion of Classic TM inventory.
The role holder, as a stakeholder, will provide input on the TM Operations Quality Assurance and Education programmes that are delivery by Investigations.
The Opportunity:
Protect the reputation & integrity of the Group by ensuring appropriate operational processing and administrative activities are completed in accordance with local laws, regulations, and Group standards.
Obtain “Satisfactory” grading in audits, in order to avoid fines, or sanctions.
Embed procedures that optimize efficiency in reducing the inherent risks & costs in the evaluation of alerts in the monitoring system.
Drive cross-functional engagement with Investigations and TM Operations. Noting that the process is end to end, it is key to ensure good stakeholder management between Operations and the different Global, Regional and Country Investigative Reporting Leads as well as Risk Owners in each market.
The role holder will have joint accountability with Investigations for maintaining control and governance of Audit, Assurance and MSII outcomes & clearance within timelines.
Manage, maintain and control country costs versus the Annual Operation Plan (AOP) budget, including resource demand and supply within plan. This includes agreeing budget with lines of business and working closely with analytics to ensure volume forecasting is accurate and funded.
Track and oversee Change Transformation activities as well as supporting the delivery of all major cross country programs in accordance with Global Standards.
What you’ll do:
Driving continuous productivity improvement for Transaction Monitoring processes by participating as a key stakeholder in the delivery of new technology and working along with the management team to identify business process streamline opportunities.
Lead & promote a culture of “First Class” client service by optimizing the processes under Transaction Monitoring
Be responsible for all governance associated to the Line of Business and serviced countries to facilitate good communications and resolve issues within the organization for the varying business areas, which are supported by Transaction Monitoring
Evaluate operational demands & establish plans to achieve higher performance levels with an optimal use of resources.
Accountability for the KRIs in line with the RACI agreed with the business and R&C (Accountability matrix), including the strategies necessary to achieve an increase in performance, productivity, & the quality of all processes.
Promote & support the implementation of all technological initiatives & the improvement of processes that have been identified as being necessary & viable.
Ensure a quality service is provided to internal customers by meeting a/o exceeding service standards.
Chair and assist to regular meetings with the different Global and Regional stakeholders to facilitate good communications and resolve issues within the organization for the varying business areas, which are supported by Transaction Monitoring.
Ensure key stakeholders are informed of the progress and challenges of Transaction Monitoring and ongoing operation.
Work closely with Regional and Global stakeholders to implement and update guidance and policy appropriately.
Interface regularly with senior business managers to resolve escalated issues and identify opportunities to meet specific business needs that may arise.

Requirements
What you will need to succeed in the role:
In-depth knowledge of HSBC Group’s business, structure and strategy
Substantial experience in Operations Management including working in Transaction Monitoring & Name Screening Operations
Previous AML experience within a universal service bank preferred. Auditing or assurance experience an advantage. And is able to demonstrate thorough awareness and understanding of regulatory and compliance topics, including Anti-Money Laundering and General Compliance, in addition to sector trends.
Wide scope of knowledge and experience in the financial services business including key trends and market knowledge, and products with particular strengths in operations, systems and organization
Well-developed managerial, analytical, organizational, operational and planning skills
Proven operations and change leadership experience and the ability to accomplish through others
Demonstrated skill to quickly grasp complex processes and concepts and make strategic decisions and recommendations/actions plans across a broad range of subjects. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Capability to organize and prioritize effectively in order to manage diverse activities globally under tight deadlines and close executive management scrutiny
Creativity and latitude is expected including direct communication with department colleagues, business and support department partners, lead regulators, auditors, board members and other key senior stakeholders and constituents
Ability to work collaboratively and build senior relationships whilst making material progress across a matrix organization structure
