Head Waiter – Tsunami Clapham

Tsunami is a well-established Japanese restaurant in Clapham, renowned for its modern Japanese cuisine and vibrant cocktail bar. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Waiter to join our team and help deliver exceptional dining experiences.

Job Overview

As Head Waiter, you will oversee the smooth running of the dining area, ensuring outstanding customer service and high operational standards. You will train and motivate team members, support seamless communication between front-of-house and back-of-house, and ensure guests enjoy a memorable experience rooted in Japanese hospitality (Omotenashi).

Key Duties

Oversee daily restaurant operations, including opening and closing procedures.

Deliver excellent customer service and confidently manage guest interactions.

Provide knowledgeable recommendations on Japanese dishes, sake, and cocktails.

Train, mentor, and support team members to uphold company standards.

Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards.

Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service flow.

Handle transactions and manage bills accurately.

Implement upselling techniques to enhance the guest experience.

Assist with stock control and supply management as required.

Skills & Qualifications

Minimum one year’s experience in a similar role (Head Waiter/Head Server equivalent).

Proven background in hospitality with a focus on customer service.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Reliable, punctual, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Eagerness to learn about Japanese cuisine, sake, and cocktails.

Basic numeracy skills for billing and cash handling.

Kitchen or culinary knowledge is an advantage, but not essential.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.21-£14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 34 – 48 per week
