About the Role
Join us in shaping a healthier future for Aotearoa! NPHS Te Manawa Taki Regional team is seeking a passionate and skilled Health Promotion Advisor to join our Community and Whānau Wellbeing team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformational change in our health system, guided by the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) vision and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
As a Health Promotion Advisor, you will lead and support initiatives that enhance community health and wellbeing. You'll work collaboratively with whānau, hapū, iwi, Pacific communities, and other stakeholders to address the determinants of health, eliminate disparities, and promote equity.
Your mahi will include:
Design and deliver health promotion initiatives through research and evaluation using co-design and community approaches
Ensure programmes are evidence-informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with whānau and community wellbeing outcomes
Advocating for Māori health equity and supporting Māori-led and Pacific-led responses
Influencing policy and creating supportive environments for wellbeing
Applying systems thinking and innovation to improve outcomes
Facilitating workshops, wānanga, and community engagement activities
About the Team/Service/ Location
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You are someone with excellent relationship management, influencing and facilitation skills. You can work in an evidence-based way, integrating health promotion frameworks, health data and community insights to inform priorities and programme development. You have excellent communication skills and be able to adapt information and complex ideas to a wide range of audiences.
With a focus on achieving equity, you will work closely with local government, iwi and hapū, and priority communities to bring about positive changes on a wide range of issues including immunisation, screening, smokefree/ vape free, food environments, physical activity, ******* and mental wellbeing. You have a willingness to build constructive and effective relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs and environment.
Previous experience in health promotion, community development or a related role
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively alongside communities and wider stakeholders
Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate programmes and projects
Understanding of Public Health approaches including settings-based approaches, community-led development, systems thinking, co-design and collective impact
Willing to travel across the local district and region
Clean NZ Driver's License
Desired - A tertiary qualification in public health, health promotion, social science, education, Māori studies, community development or a related field or equivalent experience
