Job Summary

Holmwood Corner Surgery are proud of our team which comprises 4 GP partners, seven salaried GPs, two pharmacists, FCP, a social prescriber, three practice nurses and nursing associate supported by our experienced management team and administrative colleagues including a prescription clerk and a team streamlining workflow for clinicians. Our purpose-built premises serves a population of 13,+00.

The surgery is looking for a friendly, professional, and efficient HCA to join our practice team. The right candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with our diverse patient population and be able to work well in a close-knit team of both clinicians and non-clinicians. Good clinical knowledge and analytical skills are important to ensure successful consultations whilst working closely with the existing nursing team of three senior nurses and Nursing Associate .

Experience in long- term condition management including Diabetic foot checks would be ideal as well as other general HCA duties.

Previous Experience In General Practice Is Essential.

About Us

Kingston GP Chambers is a Federation of all NHS General Practices within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. It was founded in 2008 as a limited company whose shareholders are all 20 GP Practices within Kingston. The company is led by a Board of Directors who are also GP Partners in their own Practices within Kingston.

Kingston GP Chambers has worked collaboratively with both secondary care and the private sector. At present we provide community clinics for Dermatology, Urology, Neurology, Dementia and Diabetes.

In addition, Kingston GP Chambers are at the forefront of improving patient access to primary care.

We deliver a comprehensive extended hours service offering GP appointments across three hubs in the evenings Monday to Friday, over the weekend and on Bank Holidays.

Kingston GP Chambers has the ability to respond rapidly, and we have continued to demonstrate the capability to provide high-quality, innovative and timely solutions to improving patient care and experience.

We work closely alongside the other GP Federations in Southwest London to continue the government's five-year forward plan and deliver patient services in the community.

We aim to continue to grow as we are increasingly recognised as the provider of choice for extended, enhanced and urgent GP services.

We also expect an increasing role as we support, reinforce and develop the position of general practice as the core building block for an increasing range of jointly-provided services.

The Kingston GP Federation (Kingston GP Chambers) is recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant on behalf of Holmwood Corner Surgery in New Malden.

The main role of the Healthcare Assistant is to assist the Nursing Team in providing a range of quality health and personal care services to patients in a professional, efficient and courteous manner, to meet individual needs.

Clinical Responsibilities
• Measurement of height, weight and BMI, and urinalysis.
• Phlebotomy
• Administration of injections under the supervision of the Practice nurse team using a Patient Specific Directive (after completing a HCA immunisation foundation course).
• Measurement of blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiratory rate.
• Fitting and recording of ECGs, 24 hour blood pressure monitors for patients.
• Ear irrigation
• NHS health checks
• Flu vaccinations
• Hearing tests

Additional Duties
• Undertake other clinical activities identified by the Practice Nurses in accordance with written protocols
• To report all matters pertaining to patient care (ie: changes in condition/circumstances) to a relevant member of the nursing or medical team and ensure that the appropriate documentation is made
• To be responsible for ensuring consulting rooms are at all times kept stocked, clean and orderly and that relevant equipment is ready for use by nursing and medical staff during clinic sessions. This includes cleaning and sterilising of instruments and ensuring equipment is correctly maintained
• Ensure the drug refrigerator is at correct temperature on a daily basis and that drugs are within their expiry dates and used in the correct sequence
• To assist clinicians in emergency management of patients
• To act as chaperone if required.
• To assist patients in their usage of Practice equipment, including toilet facilities
• To enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the Practice teams.
• To be responsible for the supply of relevant health promotion literature/materials in the waiting areas and consulting rooms, ensuring stocks are maintained
• To participate in audit as required (note sampling, data input and information gathering)
• Completion of forms
• Liaise with other health care professionals
