Position Summary
BAAC Construction is actively hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator - Deep Utilities to support underground utility and civil infrastructure projects across Alberta and Western Canada.
This position is best suited for a skilled operator with strong experience in deep underground utility installation, excavation safety, and working around existing infrastructure in high-production environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in safely executing projects involving deep utilities, water, sewer, storm, telecom, and underground infrastructure installations.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of safety and production, and can operate efficiently in fast-paced construction environments.
Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently on deep utility and civil construction projects
Install deep underground utilities including:
Water mains
Storm systems
Sanitary sewer systems
Underground telecom infrastructure
Utility crossings
Operate equipment such as:
Excavators
Loaders
Dozers
Packers
Skid steers
Rock trucks
Read and interpret utility drawings, grade stakes, and construction plans
Perform trenching, bedding, backfilling, and grading operations
Work safely around existing underground utilities and congested infrastructure
Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
Maintain safe excavation practices and proper trenching procedures
Work closely with supervisors, grade crews, pipe crews, and subcontractors
Assist with site preparation and maintaining production schedules
Follow all company safety policies, FLRAs, and site-specific procedures
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years experience operating heavy equipment in deep utility or civil construction
Experience installing deep underground utilities is required
Strong understanding of excavation safety and trenching practices
Experience working around live utilities and congested urban environments
Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades
Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset)
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to travel and work throughout Alberta when required

Water and sewer infrastructure
Shoring and trench safety systems
GPS machine control experience
Civil construction and telecom infrastructure projects
Experience operating in high-production environments
