Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
To support Alaris Health Mission/Vision/Values and support a positive culture of safety for our patients. Function as part of the health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis treatments under the direct supervision of a licensed RN. Performs in accordance with established rules, regulations and standards of practice of the facility. Abides by all federal, state and corporate regulations relating to the operation of an ESRD facility.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Represents the dialysis facility in a positive and professional manner.
Demonstrates an above-and-beyond approach to patients, families, visitors, and physicians and provides assistance as necessary.
Responsible for answering phone calls within no more than 3 rings.
Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve, and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers, family members, and staff.
Performs outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers
Develops and maintains productive relationships through effective and timely communication
Follow through with all grievance policy and procedure to ensure timely and adequate quality customer care
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
QUALITY
Responsible for maintaining Alaris Health Dialysis standards through meeting all ESRD
regulatory requirements.
Ensures all Alaris Dialysis policies and procedures are carried out in order to meet safety
and quality goals of the organization.
Maintains facility environmental integrity, including safety
Support ongoing adherence to Infection Control practices within the unit
Reinforce Infection Control education of patients and families under the direction of the
Clinic Manager
PATIENT CARE
Welcome patient and inquire about any inter dialysis problems patient may have
experienced at home.
Conducts preparation of dialysis machine for treatment including priming.
Performing pre-dialysis tasks of obtaining vital signs, pre dialysis weights and calculating
fluid removal based on EDW
Reports any abnormalities of vital signs or weight to charge nurse.
Initiates, monitors and terminates the hemodialysis treatment as per unit procedure.
Initiates, monitors and discontinues the treatment utilizing AV fistula or AV graft as per
policy.
Intradialytic monitoring of patients with CVC’s.
Ensure complete documentation on the EMR.
Performs interventions as per policy and procedure.
Performs water testing procedure as per policy and procedure
Documents above on the appropriate log sheets.
Ensures proper disinfection of dialysis equipment after treatment.
Handles and prepares lab specimens as per procedure.
Has knowledge of emergency procedures and is aware of his/her role in an emergency.
STAFF
Assists with the orientation of direct patient care staff to the facility.
Delivers and maintains on going competency audits to ensure performance standards are
met.
Acts a resource to all applicable clinical and facility staff.
Maintains good communication between managers, educators and direct patient care
staff.
MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:
Ensures a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the dialysis treatment area.
Ensures competency in the operation of all dialysis related equipment safely and effectively
Ensures that all patient stations, including machines and chairs, are clean and free of blood and placed appropriately
Ensures all blood spills are immediately addressed according to the Infection Control Policies
All broken machines are documented properly for the Chief technician to review.

Employees are required to take the Ishihara’s Test for Color Blindness as a condition of

Day to day work includes desk and personal computer work and interaction with
patients, facility staff, and physicians.
The position provides direct patient care that regularly involves lifting and moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance. This position requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance, machines and equipment, and may lift chemical and water solutions.
The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or G.E.D.
CMS approved- approved state and/or national certification
All appropriate state licensure, education and training (if any) required
Attendance in all mandatory education programs.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
One year experience in chronic dialysis setting
CPR certification
