Job description, work day and responsibilities
Teachers are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students from Kindergarten to Grade 8/12 (elementary to secondary schools). They create lesson plans and a learning environment that fosters academic success and personal growth. Teachers provide constructive feedback, instruct students in subjects such as science, literature, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, technology, and trades, and develop a well-rounded, comprehensive curriculum.
They establish strong relationships with students, motivating them to develop essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes that support their educational progression. Additionally, teachers collaborate with parents and staff to create a positive and supportive learning community. For this role, expertise in Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology, and Trades is expected to support students in gaining critical thinking, technical, cultural, and practical skills relevant to modern society and career pathways.
Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the Employment Contract, teachers are expected to:
Foster the intellectual and personal development of each student.
Support students in building strong learning habits, discipline, and respectful behavior.
Implement strategies that promote students’ understanding and respect for the rights of others.
Maintain fairness, professionalism, and impartiality in all interactions with students.
Communicate with parents about their child’s progress, offer guidance for home support, and encourage family involvement.
Uphold and promote high standards of both written and spoken language.
Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance teaching competence.
Mentor new educators and contribute to the training of future teachers.
Adhere to school policies, deadlines, and regulations while demonstrating respect toward colleagues and administration.
Comply with MAC’s ethical code of conduct, dress code, and the school’s educational vision and mission.
Follow school guidelines for lesson planning, assessments, report cards, and both incident and achievement reporting.
Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times. Teachers are fully responsible for student supervision during instructional and duty periods, and leaving students unsupervised is a violation of this contract.
Accompany their homeroom classes on school trips unless otherwise directed by the administration.
Actively participate in and initiate extracurricular activities, subject to prior administrative approval.
Develop subject-specific learning experiences in Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology, and Trades, including project-based learning and interdisciplinary activities that link theory with practice and real-world applications.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), University Degree, or Master of Education. A background or specialization in Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology, or Trades education is considered an asset.
Experience: 1–2 years in a similar role.
Certification: Provincial teaching certification (e.g., Ontario Certified Teacher – OCT).
Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively fulfill the responsibilities listed above, with subject expertise in one or more of the following areas: Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology, and Trades.
