Beckman Coulter is seeking a Lead Software Engineer, CDS Solutions, based at Danaher s India Development Center (IDC), at state-of-the-art facility in Bangalore or remote from other locations in India. IDC is a research and development center with the vision of accelerating product roadmaps across various Danaher business segments. Started in 2014, the center now hosts 650+ associates, for multiple Danaher operating companies focusing on Diagnostics, Life Science, and Environmental and Applied Science segments. The operating companies includes Beckman Coulter, Radiometer, Leica Biosystems, Danaher Digital, Hach, Leica Microsystems, HemoCue, Videojet, SCIEX, IDBS and Cepheid. The IDC workforce is comprised of various product engineering teams, working on development of software and hardware components of cutting-edge products for Clinical Decision Support, Immunoassay, Chemistry, Hematology, Molecular diagnostics, Oncology, Neurosurgery and Water Quality. IDC has evolved as center of excellence for Cloud and data analytics, with significant contributions to the key informatics solutions. The teams consist of highly hardworking software & hardware engineers and development managers. The teams are supported by local Product managers, Quality & Regulatory and Intellectual property specialists.
Role Description
As the Lead Software Engineer, CDS Solutions, you will be responsible for interfacing and integrating a cloud-based software portfolio into Emergency Departments around the world as part of a collaborative engineering team for the CDS Solutions business. In this role, reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, CDS Solutions, you will help shape an innovative digital diagnostics portfolio of new offerings that use machine learning and AI technology to improve clinical outcomes, and you will collaborate with a team of highly skilled software engineers and data scientists to deliver these predictive analytics to healthcare providers via cloud-based EHR-integrated clinical decision support (CDS) solutions . Job Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and document modular, containerized, cloud-based software systems that meet intended user needs, architectural plans, and system requirements and are scalable, extensible, and highly secure.
• Act as an interfacing liaison between both potential and current clients, with an understanding of the clients local Interface Engine(s) needs and capabilities
• Work with new and current clients to filter outbound HL7 traffic, both by message type and by originating health system/hospital
• Work with new and current clients to set up both inbound and outbound interfaces on both client-side and CDS-side
• Collaborate with CDS Middleware engineers on customer-specific data transformations
• Mentor and coach less experienced engineers to help team perform at the highest level.
• Leverage healthcare standards to integrate seamlessly into clinical systems and workflows, robustly addressing data privacy, security, authentication, auditing and other essential functions.
• Collaborate with a cross functional team of systems engineers, architects, product managers and clinicians to determine the best design to deliver CDS solutions to hospital customers.
• Partner with quality and regulatory teams to ensure solutions meet software as a medical device (SaMD) regulatory and quality control requirements as needed.
• Keep abreast of emerging technologies and standards inside and outside of the healthcare space and recommend technologies to best fit business needs.
Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor of Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in software engineering roles and expertise in .Net C#
• Solid understanding of Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications (e.g. Epic and Cerner) and interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, SMART on FHIR
• Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) integration engines, their capabilities and sending and receiving different types of HL7 messages via HTTP(s) and TCP/IP
• Deep understanding of the different payloads of data available, including segment and data types, in HL7 messages
• Deep understanding of the different types of FHIR API calls and the data payloads contained in the responses
• Ability to research API specs, such as Swagger, to understand and evaluate API availability and data responses for current needs and future growth
• Excellent technical, troubleshooting & mentoring skills
• Ability to derive solid detailed design by understanding the system architecture and requirements
• Significant experience working with agile software development methods, such as scrum and Kanban and exposure to working within CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience developing regulated medical device software that strictly adheres to design controls and quality management system requirements
• Ability to work effectively across multiple departments, countries, and time zones
• Self-motivated to complete tasks timely with competence; driven to self-educate and improve processes
• Strong verbal, written and presentation skills with ability to build trust
• Results oriented with focused urgency, prioritization skills and ability to recognize/escalate issues appropriately
• Can comprehend product specifications, architectural and high-level design, functional specifications.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
