Key Responsibilities:
• Review and analyze patient medical records to determine appropriate codes for surgical procedures and diagnoses.
• Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on the documentation provided by healthcare professionals.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, payer guidelines, and coding standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and other team members to resolve coding discrepancies and obtain necessary documentation.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in coding practices and healthcare regulations.
• Assist in the development and implementation of coding policies and procedures.
• Participate in coding audits and quality assurance activities to ensure coding accuracy and adherence to standards.
• Provide support and training to other staff members on coding practices and procedures as needed.
• Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent coding certification.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Proficiency in using coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably with exposure to surgical coding.
• Experience working with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Prior experience in a healthcare setting or medical office is preferred but not required.
• Working Hours:
• Full-time position with standard working hours from +:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
• Flexibility in working hours may be required based on departmental needs.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• In-depth knowledge of medical coding guidelines and practices.
• Proficiency in coding software and EHR systems.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex coding guidelines and regulations.
• Capability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
