Full job description
Context for the position
Fawkner Neighbourhood House provides learning support to primary school students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and/or low socioeconomic backgrounds. The program assists in developing young people’s confidence and helping them become more socially and academically engaged in their education. In particular, the program focuses on literacy, numeracy and homework support for students who speak English as an Additional Language. The tutor is responsible for taking direction from the program coordinator and supporting students who attend homework club.
Key Accountabilities
1. Student support
Take guidance from the Homework Club Coordinator and support students with their homework
Develop positive relationships with students and families
Facilitate a welcoming, fun and safe environment for students
Ensure students abide by the program’s Code of Conduct
2. Legal and Ethical Compliance
Ensure a safe environment and compliance with policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Comply with Equal Opportunity, Occupational Health & Safety, Privacy, and Child Safety legislation
Implement child safety procedures and monitor child safety in the program
Escalate and report any identified or potential child safety risks, as per child safe standards and organisational policy
Key Selection Criteria
Undertaking qualifications in education, social work, community development, social science, or similar experience
Good communication and relationship skills
Interest or experience in working with young people with diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and/or low socioeconomic backgrounds
Knowledge of and commitment to Victoria’s Child Safe Standards
A valid Working with Children Check and National Police Check

31 of July, Tutor induction: 3.30pm – 4.00pm, Homework Club: 4 - 6pm
7 of August, 4 – 6pm
14 of August, 4 – 6pm
21 of August, 4 – 6pm
28 of August, 4 – 6pm
4 of September, 4 – 6pm
11 of September, 4 – 6pm
Term review, Date and time TBC
Job Types: Fixed term, Casual
Contract length: 8 weeks
Pay: $31.76 per hour
Expected hours: 2 per week
