The Opportunity

BGIS is seeking a passionate and experienced Health, Safety, Environment, & Quality (HSEQ) Coordinator to join our HSEQ team based in Christchurch. This pivotal role focuses on the development and delivery of HSEQ training, communications, and wellbeing initiatives to support BGIS in meeting its HSEQ objectives and compliance obligations.

Your primary objectives are to champion a proactive safety culture, drive continuous learning, and ensure all staff have access to best-practice training and information – enabling them to perform their roles safely, effectively, and in alignment with company values and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Operational & Contractor Support

Provide HSEQ support to contract-based operations staff and site teams

Maintain BGIS HSEQ processes, procedures, and documentation on the intranet and online services

Support the implementation and use of contractor management systems and compliance tools

Assist with hazard, near miss, and incident reporting processes

Ensure WHSE policies and procedures are followed and maintained by all stakeholders

Support contract transitions (new and resecured contracts) to ensure seamless HSEQ integration

Training & Capability Development

Plan, develop, and deliver HSEQ training and inductions, including compliance courses, ambassador programs, and wellbeing webinars

Provide training on HSEQ systems and tools to staff and vendors

Contribute to internal awareness through the creation of educational materials, toolbox talks and safety alerts

Active participation in HSEQ campaigns and events

System Coordination and compliance

Ensure compliance with all statutory and contractual obligations across operations

Maintain WHS system compliance with AS/NZS 4801 and ISO 45001

Maintain Environmental Management System compliance with AS/NZS ISO 14001

Review, update, and develop HSEQ policies and procedures in line with current regulations and best practices

Support internal and external WHSE audits, vendor audits, site inspections, and facility reviews

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a proactive leader who is enthusiastic about HSEQ excellence and people engagement, and who can execute with authority.

Essential:

2 years' experience in a Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) related role

Minimum NZ Certificate in Health & Safety (Level 3) or equivalent/higher qualification

Strong communication skills to engage effectively with people at all levels and backgrounds

Confident managing difficult conversations and implementing corrective actions to improve compliance and workplace culture

Experience delivering HSEQ related training, inductions, and e-learning

Self-motivated and organised, able to take ownership from day one and meet deadlines within a team

Adapts quickly to evolving site conditions and regulatory requirements, applying a flexible and solutions-focused mindset to health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) challenges.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) to support documentation, reporting, and communication of safety and compliance matters.

Experienced in the use of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking corrective actions, scheduling audits, and maintaining safety-related asset records.

Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to ensure HSEQ standards are met across construction and maintenance activities

Desirable:

NZ Certificate in Health & Safety (Level 4)

ICAM or similar

Experience in the Maintenance/Facilities Management

Experience using adult learning principles in training design and delivery

Permit to Work Issuer
