Job Description
*Positions are open to those based in Sydney or Melbourne*
We’re on the lookout for an experienced and motivated Import Sea Freight Operator to join our dynamic team and help keep international cargo moving smoothly. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our sea freight import operations, coordinating shipments from load port to final delivery and ensuring every movement is accurate, efficient, and delivered on time.
This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced position where your expertise in freight forwarding, documentation, and sea cargo systems will make a real difference to how our clients experience our service.
What you’ll be doing
Track and monitor shipments – Keep a close eye on all sea freight imports from origin to destination, flagging delays or issues early and keeping everyone informed.
Manage documentation like a pro – Identify, request, verify, and secure all key shipping documents (Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, import permits, and more) to ensure cargo clears customs and reaches its destination without hiccups.
Make the most of our systems – Use ICS (Integrated Cargo System) and CargoWise One (CW1) to maintain accurate shipment records, update milestones, and generate reports that keep operations running smoothly.
Coordinate with key partners – Work directly with shipping lines, overseas agents, customs brokers, internal teams (like Fleet and Accounts), and clients to keep timelines aligned and expectations clear.
Solve problems before they escalate – Spot potential issues related to customs delays, document errors, or cargo misrouting, then take initiative to find solutions and minimise impact on clients and the business.
Stay on top of compliance – Ensure all shipments comply with local and international customs, import/export, and maritime regulations, including sea cargo automation requirements.
Manage priorities under pressure – Juggle multiple shipments, tight deadlines, and service level agreements, especially during peak periods, while keeping calm, organised, and focused on delivery.
