Title and Authority
: Painter/Sandblaster
: This role reports directly to the Technical Services Manager. This role has no supervisory or managerial authority and no direct reports.
General Description of the Role
Role Accountabilities
· Safely and efficiently, according to verbal or work order instructions, produce a quality industrial grade paint finish that meets Elrus and industry standards.
· Maintaining adequate workflow to ensure deadlines are met.
· Maintain the paint and sand blast facility, equipment and supplies in a safe and efficient manner that meets legislative and Elrus requirements.
Specific Tasks
· Set up, clean and prepare surfaces for painting, using air-powered sandblasting equipment.
· Cleans grease, dirt, old paint, rust etc. from equipment, using solvent, water, rags, brushes, pneumatic tools.
· Applies paper, tinfoil and masking tape to protect items not to be painted.
· Prepare paint products for painting.
· Set up and paint new and used aggregate equipment, using forklift, overhead crane, paint pumps, spray gun, brushes, rollers.
· Stencils lettering, striping, applies decals and other identifying information on equipment according to specifications.
· Apply touch ups are needed.
· Maintain paint and sandblasting equipment and facilities to company and manufacturers specifications.
· Keep the work area and equipment clean and orderly.
· Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
· Able to work effectively and productively without close supervision.
· Attentive to details and you produce quality work.
· Punctual and reliable.
· A flexible and adaptable team player who is team oriented.
· 1-2 years’ painting and sandblasting experience, ideally in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
· Experience with polyurethane, epoxy and industrial enamel paint application.
· The physical capability of safely lifting 50 pounds.
· The physical capability able to stand for up to 10 hours per day.
· The physical capability to stoop, bend, grip, and work from heights.
· 3-5 years sand blasting and painting experience. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
· Experience with zinc based paint.
· Forklift and overhead crane experience. Preferably with certificate.
· Manlift experience, preferably with Fall Arrest training certificate.
· Understanding and appreciation of how your work affects the next step or department in the process.
· Be able to contribute to improvements in the process or the product.
