Primary objective
To manage and support the team of Industry Engagement Coordinators ensuring registered training organisations (RTOs), students,
parents, schools and industry comply with the Industry Placement Framework, and to support student engagement in career development
opportunities, including Vocational Education and Training (VET), traineeships and apprenticeships, work experience, career expos, and
industry-led programs and activities.
Context statement
The Skills NT work unit is responsible for building a skilled and capable Northern Territory workforce by providing leadership, resources
and strategic oversight of VET. As the Northern Territory’s state training authority, Skills NT provides stewardship of the national VET
framework, system, and apprenticeships, ensuring they are effectively implemented to meet local needs. Through strong partnerships with
industry, community organisations and registered training organisations, Skills NT supports access to high-quality training that leads to
meaningful employment outcomes and responds to current and future workforce demand across the Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Communicate key information, including timeframes, responsibilities, and updates relating to the Industry Placement Framework, to
relevant stakeholders such as schools, parents, students, RTOs, and industry.
2. Promote career development opportunities for students, including Vocational Education and Training (VET), traineeships and
apprenticeships, industry placements, career expos, and industry-led programs and activities.
3. Lead the team of Industry Engagement Coordinators, including regional staff, to ensure Vocational Work Placement outcomes are
achieved. Including training, mentoring, and supporting the team ensuring they are equipped to meet role responsibilities, including
compliance with the Industry Placement Framework.
4. Maintain and continuously improve the Industry Placements Framework, including associated processes, forms, and systems, to
support student transitions into employment and training while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, workers, and businesses.
5. Oversee and ensure compliance with record-keeping and reporting requirements for all Vocational Work Placements.
6. Provide advice to schools on effective work experience and vocational placement practices, and develop and share resources to
support implementation.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and diverse
environments.
2. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a broad network of stakeholders including students, parents,
industry, registered training organisations and schools.
3. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support a team across multiple locations, while promoting ethical work behaviours,
accountability, and consistent service delivery.
4. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to independently investigate and resolve issues with minimal supervision,
apply sound judgement, and anticipate and respond to client and stakeholder needs in changing circumstances.
5. Excellent organisational, time management, and process management skills, with the ability to review and improve systems and
processes to ensure efficiency, consistency in service delivery, and prioritise work, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure.
6. Knowledge of Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways, including secondary VET programs, apprenticeships, and
traineeships, and an understanding of relevant school staff roles to support post-school pathways.
Desirable
1. A Certificate III in Work Health and Safety and/or Certificate IV in Career Development
