Job Description
The Infant Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for infants. This role focuses on meeting each child’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs through responsive caregiving, consistent routines, and positive interactions. The Infant Teacher supports early brain development, builds secure attachments, and works closely with families to ensure continuity of care between home and school.
Duties
Child Care & Development
Provide warm, responsive, and attentive care to infants at all times
Support infants’ social-emotional development by building trust and secure attachments
Observe and respond to individual cues related to hunger, sleep, comfort, and engagement
Encourage age-appropriate developmental milestones such as tummy time, crawling, grasping, and early communication
Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance
Follow all state licensing, safe sleep, and supervision guidelines at all times
Practice safe sleep procedures
Maintain proper sanitation of bottles, toys, diapering areas, and classroom surfaces
Accurately document feedings, diaper changes, naps, and daily care routines
Daily Routines & Caregiving
Prepare and safely feed bottles and/or baby food according to individual feeding plans
Diaper infants following proper hygiene and sanitation procedures
Maintain consistent yet flexible routines that meet each infant’s needs
Curriculum & Learning Environment
Implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote sensory exploration and early learning
Read, sing, talk, and interact with infants throughout the day to support language development
Create a calm, engaging classroom environment that supports infants’ growth and curiosity
Family Communication
Communicate daily with parents regarding their child’s care, routines, and milestones
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all family interactions
Team Collaboration & Professionalism
Work cooperatively with co-teachers, assistants, and administrators
Accept feedback and participate in ongoing training and professional development
Model positive behavior, patience, and professionalism at all times
Requirements
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred
Prior experience working with infants in a licensed childcare setting
Ability to pass required criminal background check and fingerprinting
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Professional references required
Minimum Education : High School or Equivalent
