Job Description

Infection Control Nurse Key Responsibilities:
• Infection Prevention and Control:
• Develop, implement, and monitor infection control policies and procedures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases within the healthcare facility.
• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential sources of infection and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to infection control.
• Surveillance and Data Collection:
• Monitor and track infection rates within the facility, identifying trends, outbreaks, and areas for improvement.
• Collect, analyze, and report data on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) to relevant stakeholders, including hospital administration and public health agencies.
• Education and Training:
• Provide ongoing education and training to healthcare staff on infection control practices, including hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and sterilization techniques.
• Develop and distribute educational materials for staff, patients, and visitors to promote infection prevention.
• Policy Development and Implementation:
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and update infection control policies and procedures.
• Ensure that infection control policies are effectively communicated and implemented throughout the facility.
• Outbreak Management:
• Lead the response to infection outbreaks within the facility, coordinating efforts to contain and manage the situation.
• Conduct investigations to determine the source of infection and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure the healthcare facility meets all regulatory and accreditation standards related to infection control.
• Prepare for and participate in inspections and audits by regulatory bodies.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and hospital administrators, to promote a culture of safety and infection prevention.
• Serve as a liaison between the healthcare facility and public health agencies.
• Quality Improvement:
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection prevention and control.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of infection control measures and recommend changes to improve outcomes.
• Patient and Family Education:
• Educate patients and their families about infection prevention, especially in the context of their care plans and home care after discharge.
• Provide guidance on infection control practices for patients with communicable diseases.

Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Public Health preferred.
• Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Certification: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required or must be obtained within a specified time after hire.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in infection control or a related field.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
