Our Community Safety department is actively seeking an Information Officer to assist with reviewing and processing of documents and the provision of information and services to the public and other police and law enforcement agencies. You will play a key role in receiving, prioritizing and assessing reported offenses and other matters over the phone or at the counter along with determining the type of offense and investigation required. You will have the opportunity to assess a variety of complaints such as theft, harassment or threats; prepare police files and take possession of property and exhibits to examine for identification. With your keen sense of discretion, you'll determine whether an investigation is required and refers the file to a police officer as appropriate. As an Information Officer, you will create identification bulletins and prepare and processes still imagery from various devices and media. You'll use your customer service skills to provide information and assistance to the public while handing enquiries and explaining rules, regulations and procedures within limits. Additional responsibilities include establishing police files for new parolees; preparing and maintaining reports, correspondence and records related to the work; carrying out special assignments and projects; and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications for this position include of Grade 12 supplemented by some related law enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. This role requires knowledge of federal and provincial statutes, acts and regulations and of municipal bylaws and RCMP divisional policies, procedures and regulations along with the knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations applicable to the work performed. You'll have an understanding the various agencies and services available in the community and the type of assistance they can provide to the public. As an Information Officer, you will have working knowledge of digital image conversion techniques, practices, procedures; to establish priorities in order to meet deadlines; and to operate computer programs (e.g. PRIME, CPIC, JUSTIN) and other office equipment to perform related clerical work. A Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia and the ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance is required.

Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts and up to 12-hour day and night shifts.
