Summary of Responsibilities

The Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing basic maintenance and repair tasks on instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment under close supervision.

This role will be focused on gaining practical experience through hands-on involvement in maintenance tasks, while also developing a solid foundation in safety practices, documentation, and continuous learning.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

3+ years' relevant experience

Associates degree or 2 years of Technical/Trade School equivalency

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.

5+ years of relevant experience

Job Details

Work Location, including requirement to perform work at site

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday. 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.

Travel Required 10%

Security Clearance Requirement CAA access, L or Q

Emergency Response Requirements: Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duty is required; including being on-call (24/7) during your designated team duty week.

Physical Job Demands:

Close vision for reading documentation, viewing monitors, and inspecting components

Color vision for identifying color-coded wires and displays

Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders to access equipment

Ability to work in confined spaces, such as equipment rooms or control panels

Reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and crouching to access components

Lifting and carrying equipment, tools, and materials (up to 50 lbs. or more)

Perform the duties of a radiation and chemical worker employing sound radiological and chemical work practices to minimize the spread of contamination and generation of contaminated waste and ensure that work is performed in a manner such that the radiation dose received is “as low as reasonably achievable” (ALARA).

Apply the skills learned through Human Performance training to prevent personal errors, and errors by other team members.

Customer Service Orientation

Basic knowledge of instrumentation and control systems (e.g., sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLCs, DCS)

Basic understanding of electrical systems and components

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics

Familiarity with basic hand tools and test equipment (e.g., multimeters, calibrators)

Proficiency in using computers for documentation and data entry

Primary Functions

Assist higher-level technicians in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment.

Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and visual inspections.

Replace basic components such as fuses, lamps, and filters.

Conduct basic testing and measurements using tools like multimeters and calibrators.

Perform basic tasks related to instrument loop checking and calibration.

Assist in the installation and commissioning of new instrumentation and control systems.

Organize and maintain tool rooms, spare parts inventory, and work areas.

Record and document maintenance activities accurately.

Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures.

Attend training programs to develop skills and knowledge in instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment.

Assist in the preparation of work packages and maintenance procedures.

Participate in meetings and discussions related to maintenance activities.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or higher-level technicians.
