Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Policy
Develop and refine the organization's overall insurance strategy, aligning it with business objectives and risk management goals.
Formulate internal policies and guidelines for insurance procurement, claims management, and risk mitigation, specifically for commercial vehicle fleets and cargo operations.
Stay abreast of changing insurance regulations, IRDAI norms, and industry best practices to ensure continuous compliance and optimal policy structures.
Operational Expertise and Execution
Act as the subject matter expert on commercial vehicle insurance and cargo/in-transit insurance.
Lead the process of policy negotiation and procurement with insurance providers.
Identify and differentiate standard, non-negotiable policy clauses versus clauses that are negotiable (e.g., deductible limits, specific coverages, premium structures).
Analyze the legal implications and business impact of key policy clauses (e.g., exclusionary clauses, warranties, conditions precedent, subrogation waivers).
Oversee and streamline the claims management process to ensure timely, equitable, and efficient resolution.
Develop and conduct training for internal teams (e.g., Operations, Finance) on insurance policies, compliance requirements, and claims procedures.
Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of all insurance records and policies.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.
An MBA or professional certification (e.g., Associate in Risk Management - ARM, Chartered Insurance Professional - CIP) is a plus.
Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in the insurance sector, corporate risk management, or financial services, with a significant focus on commercial lines.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
Deep, demonstrable knowledge of Indian insurance rules, regulations (IRDAI), and compliance requirements.
Experience in Commercial Vehicle Insurance (Motor Hull and Liability) and Marine Cargo/In-Transit Insurance is mandatory.
Proven ability to dissect, interpret, and negotiate complex insurance policy wordings, specifically regarding standard vs. negotiable clauses and their legal ramifications.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and structure appropriate insurance solutions.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to operate effectively across strategic planning, policy formation, and hands-on operational management.
Proficiency in financial analysis related to risk cost and claims management.
