Interior Designer | Project Lead

Overview

Nwankpa Design is searching for a full-time intermediate interior designer with a strong architectural background. The position is for a project lead on upcoming single-family residential and commercial branded spaces. Prior experience working between interior design and architecture is needed. For example, the ideal candidate will be able to navigate seamlessly between large architectural problems and intimate, custom furnishing details. A minimum of 4 years of experience with high-end single-family custom homes is mandatory. Experience with commercial, cultural and hospitality projects is a plus. This position is salaried and offers a hybrid work environment; however, applicants must be located in the greater Los Angeles area in order to attend in person meetings and site visits.

Responsibilities
• Lead high-end residential design projects while coordinating vision with the design principal.
• Develop design concepts, spatial layouts, and client presentations.
• Communicate a strong sense of materials (materiality?), including option selection, critique, and research selection implications (e.g. material performance, fabrication considerations, budget, and so forth.)
• Produce architectural, casework, and furniture detail drawings with a high level of competency.
• 3D model and render and/or collaborate with other designers to direct model and visual development.
• Lead project coordination, client meetings, presentations, site visits, full-scale mockups, FFE selection, purchasing, installation etc. You will be involved in all aspects of the projects on which you work.
• Assist with general office maintenance: organize & maintain Materials library, assist with photoshoots (e.g. staging)
• Direct coordination with the construction team during the Construction Administration Phase.
• Work with our internal team closely. ND collaborators have a great deal of autonomy in the completion of their work, yet we maintain a close connection to the team at large.
• Contribute to a creative and friendly office environment.

Skills Needed
• Drawing and modeling (Revit) - can produce, redline, and correct own work
• Rendering skills (Enscape or similar) – can fully set-up, stage, and render including creating visual settings, assigning materials, and producing presentation quality images
• Construction Documentation Experience - has a medium to high level of comprehension on how building construction is documented through detail drawings and used in the field.
• Cabinetry detail & construction knowledge - experience required, including basic documentation and technical drawing review
• Materials knowledge - familiarity with material properties and finish assemblies
• Specification knowledge - familiarity with commercial and residential plumbing fixtures, lighting specifications, and hardware
• Contemporary furniture knowledge - has experience with furniture specification, customization, and procurement

Client Interaction - experience required, including communicating design intent, engaging in active discussion, and documenting client feedback

Qualifications Needed
• 6-9 years of experience in an Architecture or Interior Design Office
• Self-starters capable of managing projects while multi-tasking; we like people who bring ideas to the table.
• A penchant for follow through on projects, requiring minimal supervision. Ability to proactively ask questions and plan their own work flow.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent time management abilities.
• Computer proficiency in a variety of programs including computer modeling and rendering is mandatory, and proficiency in Autodesk Revit preferred.
• Experience with custom furniture and lighting fixture design and fabrication is mandatory
• Experience with the design, sourcing, specification, procurement, and installation phases is mandatory.
• The ability to work with a variety of personalities is helpful.
• Possess a sophisticated and well-informed approach to contemporary design and materials.
• Must have a positive and collaborative attitude and a joyful approach to design.
• Experience seeing projects into and/or through construction completion.

Our ideal candidate holds a degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited institution. We offer commensurate pay based on experience and health insurance. Depending on the experience level the pay may range from $90-$110k.
