Community Safety and Well-Being Branch, Ministry of Justice and Attorney General has an opportunity for a dynamic, flexible and influential professional to fulfill the responsibilities of Interpersonal Violence Specialist.

Based in Regina and reporting to the Assistant Director of Victims Services, Community Safety and Well-Being, the successful candidate will be a leader who is respectful of diversity and who can engender respect and credibility from community and justice professionals through sharing expertise on interpersonal violence and providing training on a variety of victims’ issues. This individual will be effective in supporting an inclusive work environment by developing an open, collaborative, and respectful working relationship with other ministries, service providers, agencies and communities. This position works as a member of the integrated CSWB team in partnership with First Nations, justice system personnel, human service sector personnel, and representatives from federal, provincial and municipal governments to improve community safety and well-being across Saskatchewan.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:

Develop and deliver training on The Victims of Interpersonal Violence Act, The Residential Tenancies Act, Clare’s Law, Protection From Human Trafficking Act, Saskatchewan’s Child Abuse Protocol, and interpersonal violence to legislated designates providing victim supports including: victim services personnel; social workers; shelter staff; ****** assault centre staff; nurses; police officers; Police College recruits; RCMP “F” Division; members of the Provincial Response Team; and other justice professionals on interpersonal violence;
Develop and deliver training on interpersonal violence, child abuse, human trafficking, abuse of older adults, and other forms of victimization to communities, community based organizations, and criminal justice system stakeholders;
Provide subject matter expertise to Community Safety and Well-Being, Legislative Services and the Interministerial Committee on Interpersonal Violence and Abuse in the development and drafting of policy, legislation and programs on child abuse, ****** assault, ****** exploitation, child ****** exploitation, ******** partner violence, abuse of older adults, stalking, criminal harassment, human trafficking and coercive control;
Represent the Ministry on committees and consultations on various aspects of interpersonal violence at both the provincial and national levels;
Developing relationships and working closely with communities, program staff, agency boards, and criminal justice system stakeholders to develop and adapt programs and services to meet the needs of victims of crime and other vulnerable individuals;;
Providing leadership and strategic planning to mobilization efforts at the community level through engagement with local officials, police, First Nations, service providers and other community leaders;
Providing expertise and support to agencies delivering critical programing for victims of crime and programming that improves community safety and well-being in a variety of areas;
Establishing local mechanisms for community safety and well-being planning to guide and integrate new and current programs specific to communities;
Interpreting data, policies and procedures to obtain cooperation, resolve conflicts and establish supportive relationships;
Developing or encouraging development of outcome measures that can be consistently applied across community safety and well-being partnerships;
Coordinating and facilitating information sharing and data sharing between human service agencies; and
Negotiating and managing contracts, conduct procurement processes and maintain accountability of financial and reporting requirements.
The incumbent will work closely with a provincial team and will emulate collaborative and integrated attributes. Tact and exceptional interpersonal skills are a prerequisite for this position.

This position involves significant travel throughout the province, including northern Saskatchewan. A valid driver's license and the ability to travel multiple and consecutive days is required.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through a bachelor degree in social sciences or an equivalent combination of directly-related experience and training combined with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in the community.

Experience in policing will be considered an asset.
