Role & Responsibilities
The IT Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust and secure IT infrastructure. This role involves managing both cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring high availability, and optimising performance across various platforms. The IT Infrastructure Engineer will oversee network architecture, data backup and recovery solutions, and security protocols. They will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and ensure compliance with industry standards. This role is critical in safeguarding the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of the company's IT assets, providing expert technical guidance, and continuously improving the infrastructure to meet evolving business needs.
• Oversee and optimize Azure services, ensuring performance and cost-efficiency. Continuously develop and maintain Identity and Access Management policies, including Entra ID and Conditional Access. Manage Intune for mobile device and workplace management, including AutoPilot configuration and deployment.
• Maintain and support vSphere environments, manage SANs, and ensure the reliability and security of Windows Servers across all versions. Administer SQL Servers with a focus on high-availability configurations and clustering.
• Manage Active Directory, including Group Policy configurations, and support our hybrid Exchange environment.
• Identify, implement, and maintain high-availability file server solutions as part of the wider infrastructure team.
• Design and implement robust network architectures, configure and manage Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, and ensure efficient network communication protocols. Work with dynamic routing protocols, including BGP and OSPF.
• Maintain and improve Veeam backup solutions, maintain immutable storage, and collaborate with the wider team to design and implement cloud backup strategies. Ensure adherence to backup policies, including RTOs, RPOs, and retention periods.
• Configure and manage firewalls, including IDS and IPS. Use vulnerability management tools to identify, triage, and remediate vulnerabilities. Monitor for security threats, respond accordingly, and partake in incident response exercises.
• Provide third-line support for infrastructure-related issues, ensuring quick resolution and high standards of service. Engage with the ticketing system to manage and track issues, maintaining high closure metrics and detailed documentation. Act as an escalation point for the IT Support Services team, effectively resolving incidents and problems in a timely manner, and ensuring comprehensive follow-up and communication with end-users.
• Assist in the delivery of IT infrastructure initiatives and projects, gaining exposure to various infrastructure technologies and ensuring compliance with change management procedures.
• Assist in the documentation of processes and procedures, following best practices and industry standards. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Stay informed of emerging technologies to enhance skills and support capabilities. Continuously improve infrastructure protocols to align with the requirements of our incident response plans.
• Work effectively within the global IT Infrastructure team, supporting day-to-day operations across the Groups infrastructure estate, including server, storage, and workplace managed environments.
Preferred Candidate Profile
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure, VMware, Cisco, Fortinet) are highly desirable.
• Cloud Infrastructure:
• Advanced knowledge and experience with Azure configuration and optimization.
• Expertise in Identity and Access Management, including Entra ID and Conditional Access.
• Proficiency in managing and developing Intune for workplace management, as well as for Mobile Device Management.
• Experience with Windows Autopilot.
• Cloud cost management skills to monitor and optimize expenditures.
• Experience with the management of Microsoft Teams Voice capabilities.
• On-Premises Infrastructure:
• Proficiency in maintaining and supporting VMware vSphere environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of Storage Area Networks (SANs) and their management.
• Extensive experience with Windows Server operating systems.
• Expertise in SQL Server administration with a high-availability mindset, including clustering and Always-On Availability Groups.
• Competence in Active Directory management, including Group Policy configuration.
• Experience in managing a hybrid Exchange environment.
• Ability to identify, implement, and maintain file server management solutions.
• Networking:
• In-depth knowledge of advanced networking concepts and configurations.
• Understanding and experience with dynamic routing protocols, including BGP & OSPF.
• Proficiency in designing and implementing network architecture.
• Advanced knowledge of network communication protocols and their optimization.
• Experience with SD-WAN deployment and management.
• Experience with Quality of Service to prioritise network traffic.
• Familiarity with network virtualization technologies.
• Backup and Recovery:
• Extensive experience with Veeam Backup and Recovery.
• Knowledge of maintaining immutable storage solutions.
• Ability to collaborate with the wider team to design and implement cloud backup strategies.
• Security:
• Extensive experience with Firewall management, including IPS & IDS.
