About the role:

The Security, Information and Privacy Division (SIPD) is responsible for the strategic direction, governance of processes, provision of advice, stewardship and promotion of protective and cyber security, privacy, information management and records management.

The purpose of this position is to lead and deliver proactive threat hunting and advanced detection capabilities across Victoria Police's on-premises and cloud environments. The role is responsible for identifying, analysing, and mitigating sophisticated cyber threats before they impact operational policing outcomes, public safety, or organisational trust.

Your duties will include:

The Threat Hunter role is responsible for:

Engineer, implement, and continuously improve scalable threat detection capabilities across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
Design, develop, test, and tune detection use cases and rules to improve signal quality, reduce false positives, and increase detection fidelity.
Mentor and uplift junior analysts through coaching, knowledge sharing, and peer review, strengthening overall team capability and maturity.
Optimise threat detection and incident response processes through automation, integration, and adoption of advanced security technologies.
Conduct in-depth technical investigations and forensic analysis to determine root cause, scope, and impact of cyber incidents.
Develop and maintain advanced detection systems leveraging analytics, automation, and modern security platforms (e.g. Microsoft Defender and related tooling).
Provide actionable threat intelligence, vulnerability insights, and risk-based recommendations to reduce organisational exposure to cyber threats.
Translate technical findings into clear, decision-ready advice for stakeholders to support strategic cyber defence outcomes.
About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

A tertiary qualification or an industry recognised certification in a relevant discipline such as information and cyber security, technology or business is highly desirable.

One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
