Qualifications
Work History: Is able to provide proof of minimum 4 years or 8,000 hours of experience as a carpenter
Carpentry Techniques: Understanding various carpentry methods, including framing, cabinetry, trim work, formwork, and finish carpentry
Plan Sets & Technical Drawings: Ability to read, interpret, and implement architectural and engineering plans, and specifications accurately
Building Codes & Regulations: Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards to ensure compliance on all projects
Building Materials: Knowledge of wood, metal, drywall, and other materials, including their properties, uses, and limitations
Mathematics & Measurements: Proficiency in basic math, including measuring, calculating angles, and determining quantities of materials
Structural Engineering Basics: Understanding load-bearing walls, structural integrity, and the fundamentals of building support
Safety Protocols: Awareness of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of tools and materials
Precision & Accuracy: Ability to perform detailed and precise work, measuring and cutting accurately to ensure tight joints and seamless finishes
Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying and resolving issues during construction, such as fitting challenges or unexpected structural conditions
Hand-Eye Coordination: Strong coordination to use tools effectively and safely, especially when cutting or assembling materials
Physical Strength & Stamina: Must be able to lift heavy materials (up to 75 lbs), stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks
Teamwork & Communication: Collaborating with other tradespeople, supervisors, and apprentices to ensure project goals are met
Adaptability: Ability to work in various weather conditions and adjust to different job sites or changes in project requirements
Mentorship: Ability to guide and train apprentices, sharing knowledge and skills to help them develop

Responsibilities
Position Summary The Journey Level General Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work, including constructing, installing, and repairing structures and built assemblies made of wood and other materials
This role requires a strong understanding of building techniques, an ability to read plan sets, specifications and technical shop drawings, and adherence to safety and quality standards
The Journey Level General Carpenter works both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with project managers, apprentices, and other tradespeople to complete projects on schedule and within budget

Measure, cut, shape, and join materials with precision using hand and power tools
Construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and door frames
Repair or replace damaged structures, assemblies, or finishes to maintain building integrity
Ensure all work meets quality standards, building codes, and safety regulations
Guide and mentor apprentices, providing on-the-job training and supervision as needed
Communicate effectively with the team and report any issues or material needs to the project manager
Collaborating with other tradespeople, supervisors, and apprentices to ensure project goals are met
Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Utilize Job Tread for project specific information, time tracking and daily logs
Be on time every day and show up prepared
Ensure all tradespeople and stakeholders on project site are safe and utilizing appropriate PPE

Relationships
• The Journey Level General Carpenter reports to the project-specific Site Lead.

There is always room for advancement at TBB. Vertically, the next step of advancement from Journey Level General Carpenter to Journey Level Finish Carpenter OR Site Lead.

Schedule and Pay
• Our service area includes Whatcom, Skagit, Island, and San Juan Counties. While we make every effort to assign crews to construction projects located near their homes, employees must be prepared to travel to work anywhere within our service area.
• Full-time, hourly, 40 hrs/wk. Overtime pay occasionally available.
• Field employees work Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm
