Overview
SafePlay Inc. is a growing construction company specializing in playground installations, safety surfacing, shade structures, and site development. We work on commercial, municipal, and school projects throughout Southern California.
We’re looking to bring on a Journeyman-level Concrete Mason (Form Setter / Finisher) who is interested in expanding their skill set into the playground construction industry.
We are specifically targeting experienced concrete professionals because the core skills—layout, grading, forming, finishing, and attention to detail—translate directly into high-quality playground installations. If you’re solid on concrete, we can train you on everything else.
This role will focus on:
• Concrete work (curbs, mow strips, flatwork, footings, structural pads)
• Site prep, grading, and layout
• Equipment operation
• Transitioning into full-scope playground installation (training provided)
You’ll be working hands-on in the field as part of a small, efficient crew.
Responsibilities
• Set forms for curbs, mow strips, slabs, and footings
• Perform concrete placement and finishing (broom, smooth, etc.)
• Place, tie, and set rebar for footings, slabs, and structural elements
• Read and interpret plans, elevations, and layout requirements
• Perform grading and subgrade preparation
• Install anchor systems and embeds for playground equipment
• Assist with playground equipment installation (training provided)
• Poured-in-place rubber surfacing (PIP)
• Synthetic turf systems
• Playground structures and shade systems
Qualifications
• Journeyman-level experience in concrete forming and finishing (REQUIRED)
• Experience placing and tying rebar
• Experience operating skid steer and mini excavator (preferred but not required)
• Strong understanding of layout, elevations, and jobsite sequencing
• Ability to read plans and work independently
• Experience with:
• Footings and structural concrete
• String lines, levels, and site layout
• Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and working outdoors
• Valid driver’s license (preferred)
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during installation and finishing tasks.
• Experience working on construction sites with a focus on playground or recreational structures is a plus.
