Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. The individual must be able to troubleshoot, repair and inspect all types of heavy equipment. You must be able to determine the extent of repair as well as adjust repair and or replace defective parts; then test repaired equipment for proper performance. Work could be in the shop or on the road pending on demand.
Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis and repair on all heavy equipment (off road) used in road building and maintenance such as Excavators, Graders, Loaders, Scrapers, Packers, Rollers, Plow Trucks, Heavy Trucks, etc. Work may be within a shop and/or field environment.
What is the role?
Operations:
Check equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
Preventative maintenance inspections and repairs
Interpret work orders and technical manuals
Confer with Shop Supervisor regarding all repairs and extent of repairs necessary
Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications
Order material/parts to complete repairs
Ensure repairs remain within budget requirements
Maintain service records
Service attachments and working tools such as blades, winches and side booms
Attach components and adjust new road building/maintenance equipment
Other duties as assigned
Health and Safety:
Ensure safety standards/training are in compliance with Corporate Safety Program
Liaise with the Safety Management team to keep up to date in applicable health, safety and environmental regulations
Ensure that all health and safety standards meet legislated requirements
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safety standards are adhered to
Ensure safety meetings, quarterly job inspections, hazards assessments and incident reports are completed in a timely fashion as required.
Leadership:
Willing to train and develop for potential leadership roles
What do we value?
Licensed Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certificate (inter-provincial seal preferred)
Minimum Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record
Road construction background a definite asset
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize work
Ability to communicate well with co-workers
Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety
Be motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision
Some travel may be required Overtime available and may be required
